I placed an ad and have tons of offers for used heads, but if you have followed my recent thread, I have 408 CID to feed and nobody wants to part with AFR (I take that as a hint - too new and most people are happy with 'em).
I was wondering if anyone has had extensive head work done and would be willing to share their flow numbers and the head that they are using. Anyone get 300/275 I'd like to know. Aluminum only please.
I know flow numbers aren't everything, but it's a fact that if you DON'T have flow, you are SOL.
A buddy has a set of Canfields he ported and he got 315 cfm out of the intakes. He said he believes for the money they are one of the better heads out there, but also thinks they are holding his motor back from making more power.
FYI, he has them on a 408W, and it runs real good.

Total Engine AirFlow gets 300+ out of Twisted Wedge Heads with their "Stage 3" port job. This article covers some port work they did for us on a set of Windsor Jr. Aluminums-->
tfs t-w heads, ported by dan nowak. intake flow is 298 @ .600", and exhaust is 218 @ .600, not the most insane numbers, but the port volum was not increased much, and that is good of course.
fwiw, on a 408 you have 2 choices for a street bound car IMHO, the afr 205, and the tfs r head...that is in BOX STOCK form. the vic jr does not fall into this catergory as the port volum is rather huge compared to the flow, with work they are awesome, but out the box im not impressed.
The Vr Jrs are supposed to be ported and are a lot cheaper than the AFR 205s and 225s but with the money saved can be put into having the Vr Jrs ported, will blow the AFR 205s away. AFR 205s are nearly maxed out to start with after CNC porting but the Vr Jr heads start with 210CC intake ports as cast and great potential ported with over340CFM intake flow possible while the Victor heads are awesome inline valve heads that would work great on 400+ cube street engines with just a stage 1 purchase and have gobbs of potential left for when you want to step up the power. AFR 205s are nearly $800 more than stage 1 Vr Jr heads and put that $800 into porting the Vr Jr heads and flow much more than the AFR 205s. TW-Rs are good heads but you need different pistons and regular TW heads are just too small even when max ported for a big inch smallblock. AFR heads are nice heads, no doubt but the Victor Jr heads have more potential when the money saved is put into port work.
Im with you there Kent they have been my choice since i started my project. I've seen all these other heads pop up and still like the jic jr's. The best bang for the buck. Plus you get to stay with the screw in stud and guide plate cheaper then all that jessel stuff. Some of us dont have a fountain of money to play with.
$800! Were are you shopping at? I've seen the Jrs. as low as $1249 set up with roller springs. The TW R's for $1595, and I paid $1599 for my AFR 205's.
If I wanted a set of killer inline valve heads, my older than dirt set of Street Heats would be sent out for more porting. There all good choices.
Im kinda gonna throw this out.
I'm wondering about heads that are to "small". When you look at project F-cube's 429 it has ported stockers that "only" flow 300 and 200 cfm at .600 lift. Soooooo pro ported TW or any "small" port volume aftermarket cyl head would work for a street 400W....right? I mean how much is enuff?
Supposedly, (although I DON"T have actual flow numbers), my AFR 205
s, (Ed Curtis prepped), are supposed to flow OVER 300+ on intake, and alot on the exhaust.
Ask Chris, (chilly), to post his numbers. I"m sure they're in the archive as well.
have any of you checked out some of the heads from edebrock/chapman or edelbrock/bennett, I knoew that the chapmans come CNC ported when you get them flowing well over 300 on the intake
I have a pair of ported victor jr. on my 347... They are awsome... Still with all the new heads coming out, I think I would still get the victor jr. heads again for sure....
Everything I have read on these heads is all good.... Get yourself a pair you wont be disapointed!!!!!
While on the subject....who would you guys recommend for porting a set of Vic Jr.'s? I'm putting the 351 back together, and looking for that last bit of power. Right now, they're out-of-the-box.
Be sure to search the archives for my *actual* AFR205 numbers. I have my own flowbench to compare manufacturer numbers vs real-world. AFR205's are smokin' right out of the box.
358 windsor, 14.6 compression custom wiseco pistons, 264-272 @ .050", .714/.698" solid roller, billet crank, Vic jr. intake, 950 alky carb, 1 7/8-2-2 1/8 custom step headers, MSD 7AL-2 box, 5500 stall/'glide. I ran the same combo last year on a 393 11.1 compression same cam, ran a best of 6.55 @ 108 mph 1/8. That was more inches, yet less compression, so who knows what it'll do this time.
so how much canyu really get out of small block heads, especially on the exhaust side, for use on a nitrous or blower motro where intake isn't that much of a concern
i am still impressed with the box stock victor jr.s flowing 290 or so at 600 lift.
for a little under 1200 bucks it leaves a lot of room for improvement.
I thought edelbrock fudged the numbers also but a friend has a flow bench and we flowed one came very close to what they said. I agree a Super Victor would be the way to go also.
they were flowed at place where they were ported,i dont understand the second half of your question?
