ARP Head Bolt Torquing - Which lubricant / sealer

Just got the short block(5.0) back yesterday and am ready to start assembly.

ARP recommends using their lubricant's and sealers(@65ft. lbs.)... Unfortunately, Summit didn't inform me about this or send any along... (and they didn't include the 1 "double" stud for accessory mounting).

ARP does give specs. for using 30W oil(85 ft. lbs.), but that's not good for the bolts going into the water jacket..

What do you use for lubricant / sealer & torque?

I run ARP screw in studs but its the same difference. I use loctite blue on the threads and I always assemble with 30 weight oil. I don't think the 302 has any head bolt threads that go into water. Mine doesn't. Isn't that only on the 289 blocks?

Called Summit today....
ARP does not make the "double" head bolt I needed (factory spec.). Summit would supply the bolt lube for free, however, the sealer is $7.95.

Long story short, I ended up using the old bolts. After talking with a few people, it seemed to be a reasonable idea (and less expensive). Used silicon gasket sealer on the exhaust side and 30W on the intake side.

NAPA could get a new set for $16.50 and the Ford Dealer wanted $50.

ARP's insert was incorrect for the tensile strength of the bolt(according to Summit). The bolts were labeled 170 KSI, but were 190 KSI.

Thanks for the posts! Hopefully, I'll remember all this next time!!!
