Mustang/Torino seats interchangeable?

A quick question - does anybody know if factory '71 Mach 1 high back bucket seats and runners will bolt up in place of the bench seat in a '71 Torino?

No, the 71-3 Mustang used a different style of track mounting, with bolts on the topside of the seat pan. Your Torino would be able to use 69-70 hiback buckets though. The mounting studs are accessed through plugs in the floorpan, under the car.You could probably adapt something with the later seats, but the earlier Mustang seats would be a direct bolt in, if the bench and bucket seat platforms are the same.

Mustang/Torino seats interchangeable?

I have a 70 Torino that I switched from a bench seat to buckets just last year. I used buckets out of a 70 Mustang. From the experience I went through on mine I would say it doesn't make a whole lot of difference what bucket seat you use because you're going to have to drill new holes and or make new mounting brackets anyway. With the bench seat there are only two holes on each side of the car and bucket seats require four holes on each side of the car. So at a minimum you have to drill two new holes on each side and make some sort of bracket or hump on the back inner hole to raise it up.

What I did on mine was just make long L brackets similar to what the fiberglass buckets have. It adapts the 70 Mustang seat (which had a different bolt spread) to the bolt spread that my Torino has. It's really pretty easy once you see what you have to work with.

What about changing the seat rails on the seats? I have a 71 torino gt, with trashed black buckets. It would be nice if I could just pick up a set of 70 mustang seats for cheap, and just change over the seat rails. Anyone try this?

I have looked at a few bucket seats when I was considering swapping out my bench in my 71 Torino.

Looks like Ford used the same bolt spacing and pattern from at least '71 (oldest set I checked) through '84 (newest).

The seat rails are different, depending on the body the seats came from, but the seats can be swapped onto each other's rails and still line up.

For what it's worth, I kept the bench seat.

I dunno if it works for Torinos, but I went out and got a set of perfectly matched recling buckets out of an 83 mustang for my 71. I had to swap the brackets, but it was a bolt on swap, no drillin or anything. Matierial is the exact same blue, and even has similar patterns on em. All this for 50 from the boneyard. Can we say SCORE!

Yup, I got a set of black buckets out of an '82 Mustang, my Bro put 'em in his '71 Torino 500. 25 bucks! They were fabric and vinyl material, looked good in the car, and the fabric breathes much better than the comfortweave stuff.
