Duraspark II problem

I don't have alot of Duraspark II experience other than my Bronco which has given me no ignition trouble. Here's the problem:

My son's '85 Ranger 2.0 Liter OHC 1V Duraspark II. It's been shutting off for no reason. When it shuts off there is no spark but there is voltage to the coil and the ignition module. The wiring harness was pretty wasted so I rewired everything that had anything to do with ignition. I'm sure that the wiring is 100% correct. His accell super coil was getting too hot to touch. I put my old Bronco stock coil on and replaced the module and it started and ran great for about 30 seconds then shut off with no spark. I returned the module and after a few minutes of persuasion the parts store gave me another one. That one lasted about 4 days and now we're back to the same thing. Voltage where It's supposed to be but no spark. I can get another module but what is taking them out. The only thing I can think of is the pickup in the distributor. Should I replace that? The alternator and voltage regulator are almost new and voltage is right at 14.2 where it should be. I'm at a loss, any suggestions?

Duraspark II problem

You might want to check and insure that the start circuit is coming up while you are starting the car. It is the white wire going to the module. It bypasses the ballast resistor and insures that the coil is getting enough voltage to work, it also causes the retard on start to work. Also any time you turn the key off the coil discharges one more time and this is the cause of the occasional hit when switch is turned off. Good luck

Duraspark II problem

Do you have the right box? There are different boxes the tab colors are different.I had a green tab replacement module and it would not fire. I replaced it with a blue tab unit and it is still working.

Duraspark II problem

Check the reluctor in the magnetic pickup on the distributor. I had exactly the same problem - it would start fine, then run until it was warm, then cut out as if it had been shut off. There was no spark until the engine had cooled off, then it would repeat the same scenario again. The rest of my ignition is a Jacobs Pro-Street.
