88 T-bird. Transmission throwing fluid under car.
My 5 speed transmission went out (first and fifth were all that was left, sorta) and it was leaking transmission fluid, so I swaped it with what I thought was a good T5. Turned out to have sync problems in a couple gears, and it was also leaking transmission fluid so I put in another. 3rd time was a charm. Got a nice tight 5 speed but I'm having the same problem with leaking transmission fluid. It seems to be hitting the drive shaft and just throws it all over the underneath of the car. I'm ASSuming that the tail shaft seal/bushing is bad, and leaking fluid on the drive shaft at that point. I just thought it was strange that all 3 transmissions that I tried had the same problem.
I guess what I am asking the more experienced people out there is, is this most likely the cause of my problem? Is there something that I can do to screw up that seal when I re-attach the drive shaft? And will replacing the bushing and seal fix me up?
ANY thoughts, and I do mean any, will be appreciated.
