Just use the RTV at the corners where the gasket goes over Main #5 and over the front timing chain cover hump. Did you get the gasket with the metal inserts? Fel-Pro has a blue gasket that also has the metal inserts. When using studs, it's so easy. With the engine upside-down, screw in the studs, lay on the gasket, lay on the pan and tighten. With the inserts you can torque over the "stock" torque specs. That's what they are for... to prevent over tightening and to prevent the gasket from squeezing out.

Well, if the 351W is like the 302, the one-piece gasket is flat on both sides of the block (the places where the holes are). Then in the back and front there is an arch (one on the main and one on the timing chain cover) that the gasket goes over. So, you should put RTV in the four "corners" where the arches meet the flat parts of the gasket.
