Is this industrial (?) 391 FE engine worth saving ?

This motor + 4 speed automatic(!) are for sale here in Finland.
The motor is out from...errr...I dont know what it is called in english. It is a machine used in ski resorts to pack up snow / condition the downhill ski lopes.
The owner says the engine code is 391 EHD 4V, 391GF-6001-HW.
He did not anything about the motor except that he estimated it to be from around 1985 (?)
Would be nice to know what parts this engine consists of.

If you can get it cheap enough, its probably worth having, if for nothing else but engine parts. There can't be that many FE's in europe. $ speed sutomatic? that doesn't sound right...not for 185 especially? Maybe its a European application?

The industrial block is supposedly stronger and thought to have thicker bores than passenger car blocks, the crank has a different snout, longer, where the pulley goes, I guess it was made to allow PTO from the front pully if needed. It can be machined to passender car spec's and I believe they are Forged in sted of cast, as are passenger 390 cranks. Thats as much as I've heard about them.

Yes I'd say its worth saving! The block may or may not be able to be used as a 428 block, I beleive it depends on the size of the hole cut for the distributer shaft. Even in that case, re-using the FT dizzy will take care of that. The front cover is wrong for a car application. The Crank can be used in a car application if the snout is turned down to car specs. If it is a true FT, it will be a forged steel crank, worthy of some of the more powerful 427's (390, 406 and 427 share the same stroke) The heads and intake are worthless to anyone except someone needing replacements.

There are a few other things Im sure, but I cant seem to put my finger on the rest.

How much is he asking for it?

Thanks guys..I may check this out when IŽll be on the area where the engine is located.
One thing holding me back is that the owner seems to think he owns something very special and valuable.Very special- yes- but asking price is around 2000 usd...

Don't walk away, RUN!

I currently own 7 trucks with 330's, 361's and 391's, they are indeed more substantial(block and crank) than most other FE's but not all have forged cranks(can't say if any of them do). They are an oddity and make quite a bit of power(torque) for their application but are not worth $2000.
