I've always used gasket sealer on just about every gasket i've ever put on an engine. Is it ok to not use gasket sealer on the 1 piece oil pan gasket, intake etc. I used to put sealer all the way around the intake gasket. This time I just put it around the water ports, and I didn't use any on the oil pan. Just wondering if that's ok, or will I have leaks.
There isn't a problem with not using it , it may leak , may not. I have always found it seals better, holds the gasket in place . But if you don't want to It may not be a problem.
I don't use any sealant on my oil pan or valve cover gaskets. I lubed them with grease before install and have not had a leak. My valve covers have been off numerous times to work on valvetrain. I don't like silicone near any oil, as it can plug oil galleries and oil filters, hurting the motor.(bad experience)
Loctite makes a sealant that is oil solubule but is hard to remove after it hardens.
