I bought a new ignition switch for my Mom's 67 Mustang. It is the outer housing, and you have to put the key/locking cylinder into the housing. Problem is, the !@#$%^& thing absolutely will not go together.
They are both the correct parts, and I know there is only one way the cyl. will go into the housing, but it will not push down far enough to lock in.
I cannot take them back to where I bought them because there is "no returns on electrical parts".
So Im screwed for $40.
I've been fiddling with it now for 2 months!!
F*** it, I'll just get another one, but I want one that is already assembled with the key cyl. in the housing already. Who sells them assembled??
Correct. The key must be in it to turn the cyl. one way or the other. Its got a slot in the housing that corresponds to a protruding piece on the tumbler, and it'll only fit in the slot one way.
I can get them lined up, but it wont push in far enough to engage the damn slot!!
It's been awhile since I did mine, but did you try putting the paper clip in and releasing the catch? It may not be necessary...again I can't remember.
If you got one already assembled you will have to take it apart again to put it back in the dash. I hear a lot of these ignition parts are coming from Argentina which might be the problem. If I was you I will be going back to the place you bought it and raise a stink about it and see if they can get it to fit correctly. If it is a defected part not fitting together they will have no problem getting their money back from there distributor.
been a long -long time - but if i remember right -the switch houseing has to be in the acc posistion -- did you by any chance reach inside the switch houseing and turn the little slot -- if you did -turn it back all the way counter clock wise --
