Re: Spark Plug Torque Specs?

Tighten it 'till it breaks off, then back off 1/8 turn

Re: Spark Plug Torque Specs?

Or tighten it until the threads strip out then back off 1/4 turn... LMFAO!

If you have a metal gasket on the plug, turn it in until the gasket seats than go another 3/8 to 1/2 of a turn for crush.

If you don't have the type with the metal gasket, just tighten it till it touches then to about 15 - 17 ft lbs or so.

I just go until it stops then I make it tight by hand...

After hundreds of years doing plugs you just sort of wing it and all is well.

Re: Spark Plug Torque Specs?

Tighten em down till snug then another 1/4 to 1/2 turn to seat. I put anti -sieze on the threads especially If the car has aluminum heads. then squirt some di-electric grease inside the spark plug boot before shoving it onto the plug. It stops corrosion, makes it watertight and keeps the boot from sealing itself to the plug porcelain of the plug.

Re: Spark Plug Torque Specs?

Anti-seize is necessary with or without aluminum heads. (my opinion and experience) the torque spec for taper seat plugs is 15 - 20 foot pounds for the 18 mm plugs and 10-15 foot pounds for the 14 mm plugs - only for tapered seat plugs.
