G-Force Vs A-5 Which is stronger?

I have a 65 Fastback with a 351W and a 92 T5 (300 ft lbs), and I am afraid my T5 may not hold up behind the 351.
I have been looking at aftermarket gearsets to give me extra torque capacity. (I want to keep the T5 as a TKO would require modifying my tunnel for additional clearance) The below link will take you to an Astro Performance T5 upgrade using their A-5 gearset.
Astro Performance T5 Manual Transmission - Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords Magazine

This link below will take you to a Modern Driveline T5 upgrade using their G-Force gearset.
http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2...uild/index.php

Has anyone had any experience with either of these, or has an opinion as to which one is better, or why there is a difference of 75 ft lbs between the two nearly identical gearsets (A-5 gears = 425 Ft lbs) (G-force gears = 500 Ft lbs)
There is very little difference between the cost of the two gearsets with Astro being slightly cheaper.
For an additional $375.00 you can buy a mainshaft upgrade from Astro that jumps the torque to 525.
It makes my wonder if Modern Driveline has overrated their gears, or Astro underrated theirs to sell mainshafts.
Has anyone on the forum used either gearset with or without success, or know of anyone else who has?

Four pages into that I had to stop. Just silly. Didn't find one bit of decent information. Just me.

Re: G-Force Vs A-5 Which is stronger?

I have the G-Force with upgraded main shaft and case. I have only been to the strip once since install so not much history yet.

It shifts and feels like any other T5

Important to use a clutch that does not hit too hard.

From what I have been told if you have all the good internals the next weak link is the stock T5 case. The G-Force case is not expensive (relative to the gear set). If you are going to use a stock T5 case, some are stronger than others, so don't use the weak one.

Use a good shifter with stops like a PRO5.0

Don't forget the special fluid.

Choose your vendor carefully. I had very bad service from the 2nd source shop that supplied my G-Force. It was incorrectly assembled and caused a lot of problems and additional expense.

I wish I had gone with Bob Hanlon or one of the other recommended vendors I hear they do excellent work.

Re: G-Force Vs A-5 Which is stronger?

I have the Astro gear set with the upgraded mainshaft/input shaft/bearing support. The gears are helical cut. They are definately bigger in every way than the stock gears. Less teeth So the dia remains the same. they are thicker and the teeth are thicker and more aggressive profile. Whines like a dump truck in 1-3, but 4th is quiet as it is direct. It also uses a trick snapring retainer for the 5th driven gear to help retain the snap ring. Went together with no issues, shifts like butter. I can tell it is far stronger than a stocker. How strong? I can't answer that as I have not put much power through it......yet. I am sure the weak spot is now the case in mine. Although I doubt I will get to a level that that will be an issue. Hoping to get 450ft/lbs using slicks to the ground. We shall see. Customer service and quality were second to none. Tony from Astro Performance was GREAT to deal with and was able to answer any questions with an accurate quick response. I would definately do it again. I like mine.

Re: G-Force Vs A-5 Which is stronger?

I have the Astro A-5 gear set in a 306 big cam, 3.70s . Every gear howles and 4th and 5th are noiser than the moter ! And shifts like a dump truck. Tony tells me they have someone else making their gears. He now wants me to send him my tranny( at my expence),But he gladly took my 1400.+ .I don't think so!!!! These gears are coming out, and I will never deal with Astro again.

Re: G-Force Vs A-5 Which is stronger?

I have the G-Force with 500 RWHP. It works good and shifts nice. I was originally going with the A-5 but the gears were backordered and would have taken an extra two weeks. I used Wally at Promotion performance and ordered the G-Force. You will also need a longer fork if you are using an aftermarket bell housing. Pro Motion had everything.

Re: G-Force Vs A-5 Which is stronger?

Thumbs up for Wally at Promotion, he sold me the G-Force case and was great to deal with.

Had lousy service from another tranny shop in FLA.
