PCV Valve Noise

I have 75 smog infested 351 making lot of noise from the pcv valve. It just flutters away at idle, kinda annoying sound. Should this valve typically be open while running or should it be closed and then open under ceratin conditions or should it just be buzzing along all the time

Re: PCV Valve Noise

It will be open while running makeing a clicking noise. Be sure to buy a new one and replace the one you have every so often as the spring inside wears out

Re: PCV Valve Noise

What Mustange said just replace it fairly cheap.. or take come carb cleaner and while the motor is running pull it out of the valve cover and spray some carb cleaner in it but not too much and it will cause the motor to want to die.. I've done that a couple of times..

Re: PCV Valve Noise

I really don't beleive you can hear the PCV valve while it is installed and the engine is running.

I bet it is your exhaust clapper valve, and you just think it is the PCV. The 75 engines had this clapper in the exhaust that hooked up to the EGR valve under the carb.

Exhaust Gas Recirculator. If the engine is working, I would not mess with those things, as your repairs (if you touch it) will get real expensive real fast.

Re: PCV Valve Noise

I've heard MANY PCV valves clacking...

Usually from a weak spring and a hardened rubber grommet it's inserted into.

Replace it adn the gromet and it will lighten up on the noise a bit.

Just remember... If the crankcase is pushing out a LOT of air, then there is an issue somewhere in the system, the amount coming out shouldn't be excessive.

Re: PCV Valve Noise

w/o a doubt it's the pcv valve. I'll try some of the suggestions. Thanks!
