Ford 9" Third Member
Can someone tell me the differences between the third members I know the N case is the most desirable. What I need to know is the WAR case is as bad as what Iv'e heard that they can't handle a pounding in race applications compared to the C7AWE. If someone could weigh in on this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Ford 9" Third Member
I never ran a WAR case. Ran a C7AW-E case forever and a day. Tore it apart this winter and found the rear pinion bearing support broken out (which I hear is common). Put another case in it, broke that one too...Don't know how many passes it took to break it, but I ran it 4 race days (probably 25 passes) before I pulled the inspection plug and saw it broken out. Never broke anything else, though and it didn't seem to hurt a thing with the rear pinion support gone. The bearing was still on the pinion but part of the case was just broken out. Wish I had pics. It survived many 1.2X 60' passes on slicks with an automatic, and a few with a transbrake and no low side chip.

Re: Ford 9" Third Member
WAR case in my '66 for close to 8 years now. Dont race it, but I do beat on it quite regularly and no problems at all.
Only thing I dont like is no fill plug on the case. Ended up with a housing with no fill plug either ... talk about fun.
