289 3x2 intake manifold

I am curious if a 3x2 set up would be for looks on a 289, or it has better performance gains. What about fuel mileage if you drove it reasonably.

Re: 289 3x2 intake manifold

3x2 might be a little too much carb for a mild 289

but it would still look cool.

Re: 289 3x2 intake manifold

It looks great. All multi-carb setups look good on older cars.

With 3-2's and progressive linkage you run on the center carb till you call the two outer carbs in to play by opening the throttle past about 1/3 to 1/2, depending on your set up.

Fuel mileage is good, till the outer carbs start working. Just like a 4-barrel is good till you open the secondaries.

Most likely it is over carbed, and as stated above a well done 4-barrel will make more power. But, the eyeball and look factor of 3-2's can't be beat.

I like multi-carbs on older cars.

It is not overcarb if the engine can hits high revs (7000-7500)..
Clearly not usefull on a mild engine.

Re: 289 3x2 intake manifold

I will stick with the single 4 barrel , sounds like these type of intakes are designed for specific applications.

Thanks
Greg

If you want the "Bling" you can't beat a tri-power with three 200 cfm Holleys. If you want performance, stay with a single four barrel and less headaches, words of experience on the wifes car.

The carbs look like they are facing backwards. The choke is to the drivers side and the linkage looks like it passes between the front and center carb. That is quite a set up, must be a handful to set up. Thanks for the pics.

Greg
That was how they were engineered. You can't mount those Holley's facing forward, because the front fuel bowl would interfere with the distributor.
