6.0 Power Stroke turns over wont start?

I have a 2003 F250 w/6.0 diesel w/116k miles, I keep up with the usual up keep oil, fuel filters an air filter. The truck ran fine up untill a week ago. It started blowing raw fuel out the exhaust an then just quit running all together now the engine turns over just fine but it wont start. Would it be the glow plugs or the PCM that controls the injectors an glow plugs or crank or cam sensor according to the book I got for this truck it could be any one of these. Dont get me wrong I love this truck, but this is driving me crazy. I dont wanna just start throwing parts at it an wasting money an time an still not have my truck back on the road. Please Help. Thanks stangbang91

I say take it to the dealer. I believe there is a recall or TSB having to deal with the no start. I used to work a Brad Manning Ford in DeKalb, IL and remember our shop forman cussing out the 6.0L. Great engine but Ford didnt have all the bugs worked out when they first released it.

Re: 6.0 Power Stroke turns over wont start?

I fix these all the time ( NO FUN!!!!!!!)
raw fuel thats not good. The most common problem with those things for a no start. Is a high pressure oil leak you need high pressure oil to fire the injecters. I wouldnt no where to start without our ford computer on that. You need to moniter pad data and check for codes to see why it wont fire. Do you have rpm while cranking? do you have cam and crank synk? does the icp read correct. Egr valves were a problem egr coolers were a problem head gaskets were a problem turbos were a problem wire chaffing is a major problem. Maybe at least take it to a dealer and let them diag it then try fixing it yourself. You need alot of good equipment to check thos things out correctly. Good luck

Re: 6.0 Power Stroke turns over wont start?

Not likely a glow plug problem. Unless it's really cold 6.0's will start without them.

Make absolutely sure that your batteries are fully charged and in good shape. I've seen these and 7.3's where it cranks over ok but there is not enough to run all the electronics as well as the starter.

Make sure it's full of oil as it takes engine oil to fire the injectors.

Change the fuel filters. It has 2, one on the frame under the drivers seat area and one in the engine compt. While you're there look at the fuel and make sure it's clean.

Other than that you really do need a scan tool and to know how to use it.

Re: 6.0 Power Stroke turns over wont start?

My work truck had the same problem. It turned out being a valve on the oil pump that controls the injectors. It got stuck closed and in turn no pressure. No pressure and the injectors wont work.

Re: 6.0 Power Stroke turns over wont start?

You guys wont believe this ****, well I fixed my truck. It was a 10 amp mini fuse thats located in the engine compartment theres two small black boxes on the drivers side near the firewall, and they are not marked and when you pull the cover off theres four relays and two mini fuses a 10 and a 20amp. No where on the cover or under the cover does it say what these fuses are specifically. I have a book for this truck and access to a scan tool as I myself am a mechanic and out of everything I have access to nothing pointed out to those two small black fuse/relay boxes, it took me two weeks to figure it out. But at least I can say it runs good once again and after all that I still didn't have to fork over $120 to the local dealership. Last thing I wanna do is take it there especially when it is something this small. I just wanna say thanks to all u guys for your input and if anyone does happen to know what these mini-fuses do plz feel free to post cause I sure would like to know for future reference and maybe it'll save someone else time and money. Thanks again for all your input.

I have no idea what those fuses do. However, I would like to point out that fuses don't blow on their own....there is always a cause. Until the cause is found, chances are good that it will happen again, so carry a few spares

Re: 6.0 Power Stroke turns over wont start?

Thanks for the input mavman however that is why I posted the question as to what these possibly control. I have a few ideas as to what could be going on but in the process knowing what exactly those fuses control would be very helpful for myself and all those 6.0 psd owners. I would imagine if I or my girl spend enough time online sorting threw the crap we would probably find out and that may be what happens who knows. In the meantime yes will be keeping extras in the truck at all times till resolved completely. Thanks again.

Re: 6.0 Power Stroke turns over wont start?

Those are auxilliary relay boxes. There are 5 of them in the vehicle controlling different things. You need to know which relay box the blown fuse was in, 1, 2 3 4 or 5.

Box #1 is under the dash

Starting from front to rear on the left inner fender there should be 4 boxes. those boxes are 4, 2, 3, 5.

Re: 6.0 Power Stroke turns over wont start?

FICM power relay and fuse is in aux fuse box 5. It won't run with that one blown. Like I said before I would look for wire chafing.

Re: 6.0 Power Stroke turns over wont start?

I have looked everywhere I can think for any chaffing issues and I am yet to find an issue. Any more good ideas welcome. Starting new job so probably won't get a chance to look again till this weekend. Thanks
