Valve spring cups

I need some direction. I received my new Erson custom grind solid roller cam several weeks ago. I purchased the solid roller cam, lifters, springs, retainers, and keepers all at once. I started lapping in my valves the other night and found another bent valve, making that two that the best machine shop in anchorage didn't find after charging me $250 to measure the cc and check them out (that's another story). The PBM springs I received with my kit are mdl number 3840. It says they are 1.550 on the box but they actually measure out to 1.540. My valve locator cut outs on my head measure 1.615 ( TFS street heads). I cannot find a cup to work with this spring/head combination. Do I #1, cut the pockets larger to accept the cup that works with the spring? Or #2, find smaller springs?

Re: Valve spring cups

Have you checked all the manifactors, Comp Cams, Crower, etc. You might try calling them and they can custom alter some for you. You can always find the one sthat fit the thickness and outside then have a machine shop cut the inside hole for what you have.

Is there any particular reason you can't use an ID locator? That's all we have ever used. I would be glad to help if you would like.

Re: Valve spring cups

Thanks guys. I did not think of a inside locator. I did check summit and there is not an outside to match. I will have to measure the inside spring and see what the dimensions are.
