4 bbl carb that will work with Ford AOD?

I am in need of a 4 bbl carb that will work with a Ford AOD transmission. This will be used on a 302 engine in a 62 Fairlane. From my research neither Holley nor Edelbrock carbs will work with the AOD. Can anybody help me on this?

Why not? Doesn't Holley have bracket and kickdown rod extension kits for that fairly common application? Edelbrock must have the same pieces.

It might be just me but Edel carbs don't look right on a Ford.
I have a Holly 670 on my 331n no special throttle arms needed just make sure when you drill the hole for the TV cable its the same as the shaft to throttle distance.

The Ford kick-down link will not work for an AOD. You will have to buy the carb and then buy the Lokar cable kit and brackets (they do not all come in one kit).

KECHKE,

When you say "just make sure when you drill the hole for the TV cable..." are you referring to the hole that would need to be drilled in the carb linkage for the TV cable to mount to as shown in your picture? Also, when you say "its the same as the shaft to throttle distance." are you referring to the distance from the center of the the shaft that goes through the carb that the throttle butterflys are located on to the center of the hole the throttle linkage is connected to?

Sorry, my mistake about the hole for the TV cable, that hole was actually already in the lower arm , it was the upper hole that I drilled in the stock Holly throttle arm.
Scribe a straight line from the center of the hole in the lower arm, up through the center if the throttle butterfly shaft, on to the upper arm. The top hole center to throttle shaft center distance should be equal to the throttle shaft to bottom hole distance.

The TV cable has to match the travel of the gas pedal rod.

Re: 4 bbl carb that will work with Ford AOD?

Be careful when attempting to use the "stock" Holley location for AOD -- it's the wrong location for AOD.
You can use the Holley Chrysler TV cable adapter and re-drill it -- once you determine the proper location which gives you the correct range of cable pull.

Or, you can purchase the Sonnax AOD adapter for Holley.

Or, if Lokar has the correct brackets (they did not use to) -- you could try them

Lokar has the brackets but you have to order them in addition to the cable kit.

Re: 4 bbl carb that will work with Ford AOD?

any carb can be used with an AOD, they make brackets for holley,edel/carter and demons, you can even make your own if you desire, you just have to make sure you have a 1 to 1 ratio between throttle opening and the TV cable,

I have used the bottom hole on some carbs and just relocated the throttle hole a bit to make a 1 to 1 ratio.

you dont need a special carb. The special TV adapters run about 20-30 bucks. I have seen people just use the bottom hole on the carb linkage and not destroy the trans but the shift points were not correct and it only works if the ratio is more for the trans than the throttle otherwise you will fry your AOD real fast.
