Re: 4 Speed or c-4?

Well I've been meaning to hook up my shift down lever assy and vaccum line for over 15 years now to my C4 with 10" TCI converter. Only problem is I'm still trying to find 4 gear with 4.11 rear end.

My shifting is a hybrid of both worlds.

Re: 4 Speed or c-4?

Maybe I just wasn't smart enough to make the manual work. I fought it, and fought it, and then called in some buddies for reinforcements, and fought it some more...lol. I just couldn't make it work well. It seemed like every time I went to the track, I spent more time working on the clutch/ Z bar/ shifter, than I did making passes. This was my first year for the auto, and it came with a new set of problems, but once I got them worked out, I went faster, and don't work on my car at the track anymore.

I only ever broke one thing with the manual, and that was something I overlooked. I had everything built up decently, but I never thought about the spring perches. The third launch on slicks revealed what I overlooked, when it ripped both perches off and tore some stuff up. It would have happened with the clutch or converter.

Like I said, maybe I'm not smart enough for the clutch, but I smart enough to know that I couldn't make it work, so I made the switch.

Re: 4 Speed or c-4?

Put the clutch pedal under the carpet and go with a C-4. Same short times, ETs, and mph. No missed shifts or breaking of parts. Make sure you get the correct stall in the convertor and then expect to win more rounds.

Re: 4 Speed or c-4?

Thanks for the informative replies guys! Thats what I needed was a little brain storm session. Guess I'm gonna go auto. I love grabbing gears as I am an ex trucker but I'm thinkin with my level of knowledge I will be better off with an auto. Maybe later down the line when I find that old ford or merc that will make a sweet gasser I will go with the 4-speed but until then I'm gonna go c-4 with a nice little stall. Happy new year guys!

Re: 4 Speed or c-4?

I always thought automatics were for going to grocery stores . In all if you remove the 4 speed then to me the fun is gone. If not consistant with the manual and the car is right then only thought is one does not know how to swap a gear. If you more comfortable for just the ride use a auto. If you have the power and can swap gears in the air then thats the fun.
