Hi guys, I am a new ford owner and a few months ago I bought a 1973 Ford Ranchero 500 GT. It had set since 07. I put new plugs and wires on it. Rewired the distributor to the coil, new coil, new starter solenoid, and new fuel pump. I got it to start by pouring some gas in the carb. However when I pulled out of the garage it would run good up to about 30 mph. But when I tried to go to fast or press the throttle completely it would sputter real bad and shake a little bit. Eventually it died. So I opened the distributor and checked for spark on the node and it sparked and fired back up. But still wont run if i really get on the skinny pedal. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You didn't mention cleaning the carb. Did you set the timing? Maybe the advance is not working. What is the initial timing at, and does the mechanical advance work as you increase RPM's?

You didn't mention any fuel tank maintenance. There has to be a lot of varnish and crud in the tank and fuel line from the stale gas. I would remove the hose from the fuel pump and put the end from the tank in a container and put light air pressure in the tank filler pipe. See what comes out to judge about the condition of the contents.
