McLeod bell, adjustable ball, single diaphragm ???

I am doing spring cleanups and adjustments over here... Last season had a ton of issues with the clutch disengaging, not disengaging, hard to get in gear at idle, etc., etc...

So, I have everything out of the car, and have a new Ram clutch, pedal stop, and clutch tamer going in, but during dis-assembly, noticed that the adjustable ball was so high that the t/o bearing was contacting the diaphragm fingers, and the fork was touching the opening in the bell. I guess I tracked down my weird clutch issues, but now I need solutions.

1) does anyone have a ballpark on the ball height in this bell? I had written down 2.125" from the tip of the ball to the base of the stand on the bell, and that is exactly where it is, but obviously too high.

2) what is a good starting air gap for a diaphragm clutch? I have read everything from .025 to .065.

3) what is the best way to get the desired air gap, given that I am using an adjustable cable, a firewall adjuster, and a pedal stop

Thanks to everyone who stopped in and took the time to read it all, and also to anyone who solves this damn clutch snafu!
