I have a 63 fairlane that has a straight six and at the moment, a 2 speed that I would like to pull out and drop in a c4. Some say that a newer c4 with a 5 bolt bell housing will bolt up to the engine, but I'd prefer just to find a straight six bellhousing save time and so it would look more original. Is there anywhere I can get one? Thanks
There is an outside chance that he could have a 223 which has its own bell housing.
The 170s and 200s use the same bell housing, but there are four different ones that fit through 1980 and a larger one that fits 200s only 1981 and 1982.
The '60 to '66 blocks are drilled for the small bellhousing. 67 and later blocks are dual drilled for both the small and larger bellhousings. FoMoCo did this in order to have the later blocks be replacements for the earlier blocks. Bill

He said that he had a 170 or 200.
Any C4 for 170 or 200 will bolt to the engine. You will need to use the C4 flex plate and converter. You may need a new cross-member but when I swapped a C4 into a 62 Falcon that had a 2spd Ford-o-matic I was able to use the same cross member and drive-line.

As long as you use a bell from a 64 to 79 200 or 170 it will fit fine.
