Re: New TCI C6 something not right -----help!

Only when it is moving. Seems the faster output shaft moves,
the higher it gets in pitch. Doesn't whine in manual low or reverse.
Skipping second, when in "D" position. If I disconnect the modulator,
it will hold first. Only tried it long enough to know.
It shifts great manually. Still whines in 2nd and 3rd though.

I'll be calling TCI back tomorrow, and I guess I'll have to send it in.
On my dime, it seems. I wish I could figure this out. I'm outta cash.

TCI Streetfighter C6 - new
B&M Pro-Ratchet shifter - new
TCI Sat. Night Spec. converter - new
B&M Hi-Tek trans. cooler with fan - new

All installed and adjusted per manufacturers directions.

Re: New TCI C6 something not right -----help!

I installed a TCI C6 in my Chero and had the same issue with stacked shifting.

I had a B&M Megashifter I installed at the same time. I did not have the whineing issue. I just manually shifted the trans for the 2 1/2 years I had the tans and never had any isues.

I only pulled it to install a TKO600 which was my intention from the get go.

If your not opposed to manually shifting I would say just run it.

I have heard the tranmissions that come from TCI are intended for manual shift only and thus are the shift patterns are not set correctly.

Re: New TCI C6 something not right -----help!

Just got off the phone.

TCI says, I have too much vacuum. My engine makes 17-18 at idle.
They say that it's not skipping second, it just shifts that fast.
I was told to use a vacuum source that has less. And that it would help
the whining issue, hopefully.

Where do I get less vacuum from? The tech said maybe the distributor line.
But that is ported vacuum. The transmission would get no vacuum, unless the throttle
is open. I asked about a different modulator, and he said that it wouldn't make any
difference.

Less vacuum, how? Not sure what to do.

I might be grasping at straws here:

I didn't read anything about you adjusting the modulator. Did you mess with that at all?

Re: New TCI C6 something not right -----help!

Changed out their pin for one 1/16th longer and then screwed it in 4 turns.
Not much help.

How many turns can I put on the modulator? Or, just keep going?

I know there's a few persons here with the knowledge that I need.
I am wondering if, because it's TCI, they're just not posting.

Less vacuum just means the pin doesn't retract as far, so I guess I'll
play around with it some more. I don't see it as a real solution though.

Re: New TCI C6 something not right -----help!

Get someone at TCI that has a clue !!! You have tried the simple fixes with the pin length and if 4 turns in didn't make any difference you have done most of what you can do.
None of that will fix the pump noise. The pump noise is likely one of 2 things ,either the pump itself something wrong and the inner gear is rubbing/picking up on the quadrant section internal in the pump or else the noise you are hearing could be the pressure reg valve buzzing.

Sounds more like you have a valvebody issue to me. Next step if you want to go deeper is remove valvebody, air check each clutch pack and band to verify all is ok, then swap in another valvebody. BUT based on you bought this it is their problem now not yours

Re: New TCI C6 something not right -----help!

Is it the pump, if it does not do it all the time??

When installing the modulator, how much should I have to push against the spring.
(example) pin in modulator, place in the bore, how much should stick out? no force applied.

Re: New TCI C6 something not right -----help!

I even tried a different modulator (from my old C6) no luck.

I called TCI this morning, they said to pull the tail housing, check and clean the governor
assembly, then reinstall. If that doesn't work, they said they will send a different v.b.

Why not? It's better than paying a fortune for the shipping. At least their friendly
when I call.

I'd probably be pretty angry, too. But wait and see how it turns out before you make your final judgment. If it's working great with the governer cleaned and/or with a new valve body all will be forgiven. At least that's how I am. If my car is running good, I ain't mad at nobody.

I'm not mad, angry, or whatever. The C6 that was in it, I had fought with for quite a while.
I was thinking that I wouldn't have to with this one. Kind of a let down. What to do though?

Re: New TCI C6 something not right -----help!

Preload on the modulator , you want just a little spring pressure as you push it home . Around 1mm or .040" is a good start so that last bit before modulator touches the case is springy if that makes sense.

Doesn't hurt to try their suggestion. Clean the governor but there really shouldn't be an issue there unless some junk was left in there on assembly. If it doesn't work try the valvebody.
If the pump is at fault for the noise i would think noise will be there all the time . Noise might be just like valve buzz if it comes and goes ??

Re: New TCI C6 something not right -----help!

If i were in your shoes, i would send back the C-6 & call summit & get a full refund on your purchase.

Then i would get a local builder??? & replace the C-6 with a C-4.

Why should you waste all your time & money to fix there problem.

If you can't get satisfaction by talking to the manager of TCI or summit i would get an attorney to get you a full refund plus other costs.

Good luck, TCI products have a problem. Good luck. Bill

Re: New TCI C6 something not right -----help!

About 1 mm. Good to know.

That is just the kind of info that people need. Your putting it in, it's you against
the big companies, you're alone....How much should that thing stick out???

The point is...Sometimes the question sounds silly. But, if it was posted, somebody probably
really needs that bit of knowledge that is truly second nature to you. Thanks again!!

I'll let everyone know how it goes.
