I have one that measures .004" . All thrusts have been converted to roller except for no3 and selective no1 and no2. Haynes specs between .008 and .042 with all std thrusts. She turns real nice by hand on the bench. Do I leave it as is or go up to the next size no2. Race only application. Thanks in advance
Hi Greg, its the no3 not being rollerised that's got me doubting. I feel it should be Ok, just thought I'd get some feed back. It the first time Im doing a roller box, don't know how much I can get away with
It will be ok at .004" .
With that #3 what i do when i cut the front planet hub for the bearing on the front of the planet , i don't cut so the front of the planet sits flush like original where both pieces rub on the #3 thrust washer. I leave it so the front of the planet housing no longer rubs on the #3. All the thrust is now taken on the bearing .
Then that #3 sees no wear at ll, the only movement there is in reverse . Hope that makes sense .
I can kind of see what you're saying Greg. Might have to get some spare bits out to understand exactly. I've got this thing buttoned up now, but started having doubts. Dont recall if the front planetry housing was machined as you describe. I might be over thinking it.
See pics , what i mean is the centre which is the front face of the planet , leave it so it sits down about .010" . That way it doesn't rub on the #3 thrust , all thrust is taken n the bearing in pic 2.
Not essential to do but #3 washer does see a bit of wear , doing this reduces wear to nil
