I have 1963 galaxie 289 500 xl convertible with FX trans that's out of service. Quotes of $1200 to repair, "if" it can be done due to lack of parts. Found someone willing to sell me a C4 with 5 bolt bellhousing for $600. Can this swap be done without too much trouble? Or look for different trans. The 5 bolt 289 bellhouse is a lot of trouble I've discovered. Thanks Tom

It will work if you have the tq converter and the corresponding flex plate...

Do you mean the current TQ and flex plate for the FX will definitely need to be changed also? Thanks

Yes the convertor and flex plate must be changed.
Drive shaft yoke as well plus numerous other alterations.

I'm in Texas. C4 seems like too much effort. I'll keep trying to get the FX fixed, I guess. Thanks for your input. Tom
