Tranny help with a 66 fairlane 500XL

I switched out the 289 with a 302 out of a 95 mustang. Now I need a transmission. I want to put a C4 back into the car (it had one originally). What would I need to do for it to fit the 302? Can I just get a bell housing that will match up? Will I need to change the flex plate? I am looking at a performance C4 that will hold up to 750 hp for a later upgrade. (Going to put in a 351w in a few years). The C4 I am looking at does not come with a Bell housing or torque converter. I want to know for sure that I can make a C4 work with the newer 302 before I drop $2000 on this tranny.

The same bellhousing that the 289 used will bolt up, providing it is a 6 bolt type . (Some early were 5 )

You then need a matching flexplate. You biggest concern is you MUST get the correct flexplate for that motor you have now , it should be the later 50 oz imbalance.

Since you are starting from scratch, You can use either bellhousing , 157 or 164 as long as you get the correct block plate and the flexplate matches the bellhousing, and then of course the converter must match also

Just note a 157tooth bell uses a 10.5" pattern converter
a 164 tooth uses a 11-7/16 pattern converter

Great! Thanks for the reply. I had assumed all that, but I wasn't positive. I am not very experienced with transmissions and I wanted to be 100% sure before I began ordering parts.
