Dyno results on my 408w

My 408w build is finally finished. I want to thank everyone who helped me out with all my questions. I went with the smaller 185cc AFR heads (against the advice of many on the board) but I'm pretty happy with the numbers. Should work fine for what I'm uisng it for... street cruising, light to light fun.

Dyno results-

512 ft lbs @ 3900 and 475 HP @ 5600

with a 1 inch 4 hole spacer 517 ft lbs @ 3800 and 484 HP @ 5800

Thats with the Edelbrock 800 cfm carb strait out of the box no jet changes etc. Comp XR 282 cam and roller valvetrain. the headers were just little 1 5/8 inchers. Thats what I plan on running it with. I'll probably go without the carb spacer as I don't think I'll have clearance to run with it. It's amazing the difference a spacer can make.

I'd like to chasis dyno it after it's in the car to see what it puts out at the wheels but it should be a fun cruiser.

Thanks again for all the help.

I used the XR282 cam on my first 393 stroker. What intake are you using?

Re: Dyno results on my 408w

I went with the Performer RPM Airgap. I built it a little more for the torque vs high RPM HP due to the fact it won't ever see a track and I didn't figure I'd be buzzing around town at 7000 RPM.

Awesome. Good numbers, id like to see what the final numbers to the wheels looks like! I'm going to guess 390rwhp. Any idea when you might dyno it?

Re: Dyno results on my 408w

I probably won't get it in the car until April... Then I've got to find someone around my area setup to do the dyno. We'll see it could be a while.

Re: Dyno results on my 408w

My 408 build reads almost exactly the same as yours, thanks for posting, I was starting to doubt my choice of AFR-185's, Performer RPM Air Gap, Comp Camx XE-282HR cam with 1 5/8 long tube headers, and 650 Speed Demon Carb for my street rod. (I may still go with a 750 carb, we'll see how she acts with the little double pumper.)

Should have mine fired up for the first time this week if all goes well,
thanks again for posting and good luck with your 408W.

Re: Dyno results on my 408w

Haven't visited the forum in a long time as I've been busy trying to get the car back together for racing this season.

Looks like you guys are really making some good HP/TQ numbers!

I finally got the 408 back together and although this motor is not a street motor it did give the dyno a little work out, came out with 650hp @6800 and 540lbft @5700. Last year the car went 9.801@133 with the old motor so we will see what it does now.............the motor is basically unchanged just freshen'd up.
Here is one of the dyno runs where we made 623hp.............after breaking the motor in we ran about 12 pulls changing jetting and timing.

Re: Dyno results on my 408w

My 393Windsor with AFR 205's, Sup Vic intake, 800 Eddy carb with Wilson spacer, and xr292r cam mad 470wheel through a C4 trans and 411gears. Comes out to around 600crank almost with 22% driveline loss. Compression is around 10.5:1.

Gonna go with Super Vic EFI soon for better throttle response, more average power, and probably closer to 500wheel all Motor. Takes 91 octane with 3 gallons of 100 octane and I'm good to go.

Steve

Awesome power. But to make that much power you must be running high compression and a big drag cam. I went with Comp's biggest Street Roller they offer online cause i don't want to break parts driving on the street alot. Could of made more with a bigger cam and more compression, but it's a street car, not a race car.

Just curious, what are your specs and parts you're using.
