All new rear suspension
I have a AOD in the trunk, a 351W in the garage, waiting for money.
Body work is nearing finished, with paint coming very soon.

Can't wait to get it painted so I can drive it again for a few months before I put in the 351W. I have not decided on if I want to put in the AOD yet or not. Got it at a smoking price, then found out they are not that strong, Im guessing it wont stand up to 450HP 408W.

Just bought a sweet lil 64 Fairlane 500 w/ a stock 289 Special and I have to say it's pretty sick. runs sweet and I got her for a deal! $2000. for my girlfriend. Now i got the 57 and she's got the Fairlane. I also got a 64 T-Bird and a 54 Mercury. ~SPOILER

82K original miles, everything works and is completely stock except for some really ugly 14" wheels. I paid 3800 for it... not sure if I got a good deal, fair deal or bad deal.... won't really know until I peel back some layers of this onion...
The car has very little rust, surface rust, nothing more than that as far as I can tell. No Bondo, factory paint, and I drive it home, on the freeway at 70 and rides and drives peetty good.

I had two 1967 Fairlanes, one was a GT obtained in Dallas Texas and had the oddball 345 HP 390 engine as built by H-M. Paid $400 for it in 1971 and drove it away that day. It had a Holley dual inlet carb, close ratio top loader four speed, a 3.50 rear end, 11 1/2 inch clutch (same as on the 427's) power steering that alway leaked and engine ran hot. Had the predessor to Cobra Jet heads installed and the exhaust system had to be welded up once per three months due to holes or cracks. It was painted that Maroon, with black stripe at bottom, and with black vinyl interior. Was easy to loose an item dropped on to floor with such a dark interior. The VIN plate was not marked as to engine code.

The other was a 427 powered 1967 Fairlane, and I don't remember much about it for it was stolen. 'cept that it would do 90 MPH in second gear at close to 6800 RPM. May have paid $500 for it, but that seems high in 1971 for me.

Both had same faults. Did not like the thingy sticking out from the center of steering wheel, did not like the folding interior door release handles. I was fixing the 390 powered car every six weeks. The 427 car (while I had it) ran better and got better fuel milage than the 390 did. Each had the turn signal lights in the hood, like Mustangs used, and usually one went out for some reason like vibration or dirt. The local parts houses had zero on shelf or in their books for either of the autos, and had to order most everything via Ford parts counter. Even the front brakes and ball joints were different. Order on Monday, get by Thursday, install on Saturday. Figure out was is causing problems elsewhere on the chassis at same time, then repeat.

I pooped out the four speed once, and took like a month to find replacement output shaft. That was enough. The 390 car was traded to a neighbor down the street (who still owns it) PLUS $2000 in trade for their near new 1970 Cougar Cobra Jet powered Eliminator. Just got tied of "Will it start up this morning and let me get to work, or not" on the 1967.

My name is Bret Heinlein and I have a 1966 2dr. hardtop, (no post) with a 289 2 bbl, Cruise-O-Matic 3 speed and a 8 inch rear. The car appears to be all original with the exception of a real crappy paint job over the original baby blue color. (In some spots I think sandpaper would be smoother!!) The car is from California with 72,000 miles on it. It does not run because it has sat in a barn in michigan since 1977. I haven't done very much with it yet except gut the interior out in which I found a nice hole in the floor, but that's o.k. I need to learn how to patch a floor anyways. This will be a nice project for myself and my dad. My dad has 2 1969 Mercury Cyclones. One is a S code 390 C-6 and the other has a 351 Cleveland (not original) with a top loader but both of them were bought in driving condition. This will be our first restoration project together so I'm sure I will be asking alot of questions to you guys in the future. Here's a few pictures, she's definitely a work in progress!

Mike Willoughby. 66 Fairlane 500. 302 in it, C4 tranny. Pretty much bone stock. Paid too much for it (won't disclose how much, but too much.. thought I did my research, but not enough). Car's in pretty good shape overall. Replaced much of the interior, prettied up the engine compartment. It's in the paintshop right now (second time.. guy screwed it up the first time). Fun toy.

Jeremy- Alpena, AR "metal building sales" (need a shop?floydssales.com) 1956 Customline in Fairlane trim. Old Y block gone years ago. Shelled original 3 speed last summer. Now thousands of dollars later; 351 W .060, Edelbrock Performer series cam, carb, intake. '69 Heads, C-4, 9" 3.50, Granada spindels & brakes, 75% done mechanicals, body work next (15 yr paint job now) Spent 6 hours on the car sunday after church- nothing clears my mind like being in the shop workin' on the car!
