What should I ask for my 66 ragtop?
Hey guys,
I'm new here and have a nice daily driver 66 Fairlane ragtop, 4 speed car. I'ts candy apple red and has a 289 with an 8 ' rear and factory ordered 3:25 rear gears. It runs great and shifts fine. It's a california car. The paint is nice and shinny, but, not perfect as is the black interior. It has Willwood disk brakes and a completely rebuilt front end. What do you think I should ask for it that is reasonable.
Thanks

Re: What should I ask for my 66 ragtop?
Not an easy question to answer. I own a 67 390 GTA ragtop and who knows what it is worth. The NADA guide online will give you a good idea of value. It is based on reported sales in the zip code you enter. The values are often a little low sincce people cheat the tax man when reporting the price paid. Looking at the recent sold items on e-bay is a good litmus test.

Thats a very tough question with out seeing the car, everyone has their own opinion and interpetation about condition and value.
Alot also depends on your location and the market your trying to sell the car in. Some areas you can't give something away, other areas things bring a premium.
Have you had a professional appraisal done? They are normaly on the high side for most cars (especial driver quality stuff) but it may give you at least a gauge.

The last owner had an appraisal done in 1993 for $9,000.00, Since then I had the entire front end re-built and had some Willwood power brakes put in. What do you think I should ask.

Here are a couple of pics. The car now has original 15X6, torque thrusts.

Re: What should I ask for my 66 ragtop?
I was thinking of asking 13,500 only because I had a lot of offers over the years. Do you guys think that is fair, or, should I go lower. I'm not pressed to sell, but, I do need the space. Also, I don't want it to sit in an add for 6 months.

That price is probably fair if the pictures are representative of the cars actual condition. Put it on e-bay with that as a reserve. I've sold a couple of old Fords on e-bay. I bet someone on the East coast will pay that or more.

I think you should ask for money... That 9K appraisal is kind of high for a 66, but that's just me...
