1964 Fairlane Electrical issues (kinda)

first let me gloat about my find... lol

i have this 1964 ford fairlane 500, with a 260 v8, and an auto trans. this car has only 60445 miles on it (original), and it is in GREAT condition. the interior is almost mint, and the body and floors are SOLID. heres the catch. it has been parked since 1981. the price i paid for this find was only a mere 500 bucks.
Now for my problems and Q's.
these are all old cars, so of coarse, they have these generators. i changed out the voltage regulator (this car hasnt ran in... 20 odd years). it says we have to polarize the regulator to match the generator. does anyone know how to do this with a thorough description? all the instructions i can find are all very... watered down.

also, down the line i would like to install a newer radio (dont worry, ill be fabricating parts to preserve the PERFECT dash and radio), but with a new radio, i have to find a way to install new speakers, and i would like to have an amp in there. i am confident that the stock generator will not be able to pull this off, so how would i convert this over to an alternator without breaking my already tight budget? is it basically just a swap out? please help!

If you don't mind going away from original, grab the alternator brackets off a late '60's 289-302 engine. They will work with the early water pump with minor spacing. Get a 1 wire alternator, Summit sells their house brand 100 amp alternator for less than $100.

Good Luck.

I replaced my generator with a Powermaster Power Gen. It looks just like a gen and uses the factory brackets, but is really a 1 wire alternator. You can remove all the extra wiring and voltage regulator too.
