Converting to manual choke on a 1406?

Hey Guys, what's involved with switching from electric choke to manual choke on an edelbrock carb. I've been trying to find a manual cable bracket but so far no good, might have to call edelbrock and see if they'll sell me one even if they don't list it for sale. As anyone here done this conversion?

You nee a bracket for the cable, you need a new end on the butterfly rod (passenger side)
And you need a fast idle cam I think... Why not trade for a 1405? THey're out there on cars that want to have a 1406 on them...

Can I ask why you don't like the electric choke?..My wife bought a truck with the electric choke edelbrock carb this summer..It works awesome..

Re: Converting to manual choke on a 1406?

I just have to much trouble with it.....I never had trouble with a manual choke ever. My brother bought me the carb before I even knew it so I want to still us it.
Since I took the top off the carb and put it all back together I think there's something wrong with the linkage, when I first try and start the car when its cold the choke shuts all the way closed. It never did that before. I do wonder about one part of the linkage set up on the throttle side....there seems to be one strange looking part that just swings free it's closest to the throttle body on the throttle shaft. I may have to pull the carb again to look at it all closer.
I know before I did this float adjustment the choke would go on to the right step on the choke cam now it goes way past it which lets the choke close up tight.

Read the instructions on tuning an edelbrock electric choke. It took me about a week to tune mine each day before work. It talks about not allowing the choke to close too far, bending the rod, etc. Be patient. They work well.

Oh and that part swinging free is normal. That's the fast idle cam when the choke is activated.

Re: Converting to manual choke on a 1406?

I went over to Autozone and looked at one of there new 1406 carbs and compared it to mine and I've got everything hooked up right so guess I still need to mess with it some more. I didn't have any trouble with it before so I know it's operator error for sure....
I checked for power getting to the choke and it is.
