1967 Fairlane Stock Throttle Linkage Picture

Hey Everyone,

New guy here, just got my '67 F'lane 500 XL w/ 289 and C4 for a straight trade on my '50 GMC stock stake-bed. Love the look of the F'lane, but I am having to fix the "shady mechanic" work done by the prior owner (nothing horrid, just slightly concerning :-)). That being said, I am almost done with with the rebuild on the stock 2100 Autolite Carb and the previous owner had a set up on the throttle linkage that was pretty sad. He even bypassed the kick-down, from what I have heard that can do some harm to the tranny over time. Anyways, until I can get my hands on some real/proper pieces to do the throttle linkage the stock way, I was hoping that someone with a stock set up could post a pick for me, to allow me to fudge my way until the right pieces are had. Anyone out there able to help?? Thanks!

Stephen

Re: 1967 Fairlane Stock Throttle Linkage Picture

Welcome Fairlaner! I don't have any drawings or pictures at my fingertips for a c4 setup but I do have a box of '66/'67 Fairlane throttle linkage parts. Once you figure out what you need, I may be able to help. The factory linkage tends to be a bit mickey mouse so a lot of guys convert to something more straight forward (or not) but the factory setup will get the job done on a stock engine. There may be some info in the archives to help you out. Good luck!

These are from my 66 with 289 and C4. I don't know if these are the same for 67, but should be since it wasn't a redesign. Missing from the picture is a plastic sleeve that fits inside the grommet.

Thanks Adrian, this does help. i think I have figured it out. I found some pics online of other Ford vehicles with the bell crank set up and I think (famous last words "think") I have it set up right. Thanks!

Re: 1967 Fairlane Stock Throttle Linkage Picture

I saw you posted another question about the kick-down lever. Unless it was changed in 67, there is no lever. There is a cable that attaches to the lower arm on that assembly and a short bellcrank on the C4 selector shaft. AutoKrafters sells the cable under part number C6OZ-7A187B.

67 is the same as 66. cable operated from the gas pedal linkage.

I have the same issue. The previous owner (my father) swapped the intake and carb and added a custom linkage. I'd love to see a photo of an original setup as well.....

Hi there ScottR,

So my pops and I were able to set up the throttle on the bell crank with some creative work. The problem we ran into is that the linkage had to be manipulated a lot to allow the minimum movement of the stock pedal to get the throttle to WOT. We got there, but we had to bend the linkage, we had to take up slack/etc. So the end result is not too pretty, but VERY functional. I have been driving if for over a week now, on the freeway, streets, etc and the throttle set up feels GREAT, though due to the look, down the road I am going to redo it with a new pedal and cable. But it works now and allows me to focus on the suspension. My pops and I are very particular about the look of a finished project and neither one of us like this one at all, but we were proud to get the results we did on the function. If I had access to the properly sized linkage we would be set, but we made due with what we had. I will take pics of the end result tonight, it sounds like you are in the same boata we were in. Fixing someone else's shady mechanic work (no offense to your pops).... but at least his set up didn't involve an @$$ load of baling wire like my car's previous owner to hold the hot mess together!!!!!
