62 Falcon 6 to V8 swap...
This is my first go at this...I'm considering a built 302 in place of a 170...The car is basically stock...before I make the final decision I'm looking for what kind of 'snags' I could run into. I'm not real clear on the front suspension yet so any info on what do to there would be helpful...thanx in advance
P S I have a 3.03 trans to put behind the 302...tc

Re: 62 Falcon 6 to V8 swap...
Welcome to FM...The swap is fairly straight forward..If you can find a donor car with the V-8 parts it makes it much easier..I found a 63 V-8 car and put 69 cougar front spindles and discs on the front of my 63.

Re: 62 Falcon 6 to V8 swap...
I haven't done this in a long time, but sort of remember that you cannot go straight over to a different engine without inducing some problems.
Bump steer was one.
The standard Falcon steering lingage will not clear the oil pan. You then need the late (Cougar) model links to go along with in order to have clearance. Or you have to dent the oil pan to drive straight again.

I'm not quite sure what your talking about here?..The V-8 steering linkage is a bigger diameter but the steering linkage is at the rear of the pan and there are no clearance issues as long as you are using the proper motor mounts..I also ran my car with the stock 6 cylinder front suspension and steering with my 302 C-4 installed so that setup will work as well.

Re: 62 Falcon 6 to V8 swap...
Welcome to the site! I'm doing exactly what you are doing pretty much right now with a 1961 Comet. If you want to look at my blog, it could give you an idea of all the work I have encountered so far.
1961 Mercury Comet Rebuild
If you have a 62, which I am guessing from your username, it seems like you'd have it easier than I have (pre 62 has a lot of front suspension woes, different control arms, etc...)
Best of luck!

Re: 62 Falcon 6 to V8 swap...
I am thinking the 1963 was already pre-bent and ready to accept V-8 suspension items, for remember of a couple friends who did this w/o problems. Thus nothing to shop for.
I know that the 1960 and 1961 was not.
As mentioned cannot remember exactly as to if the 1962 was ready for V-8 or not. Maybe depended upon if the auto was built late in the production or not.
Do remember we had to use early Mustang rubber/steel mounts, for they kept the engine down low enough to clear inside of hood. Some local and favorite auto parts store sold them until they went out of business.

Re: 62 Falcon 6 to V8 swap...
I have had no issues with the steering linkage (I am using 64 comet v8 parts in mine) clearing the oil pan on a 289. I am also using stock v8 motor mounts to my knowledge. I believe they came out of a 64 comet as well, but I'm not too sure.

Re: 62 Falcon 6 to V8 swap...
I just put a rebuilt 302 in my 64 comet without problems. I am thinking of buying a 64 falcon with an old 6 that does not run. The car is solid ,no rust ( although the floors have already been repaired) What I like is it has the original interior in good shape, a few very small tears in the
front panel of the back seat. I plan to pull the 6 and put in a 260, 289 or 302. They are asking 1500. although it has not rusted the body has been badly painted white. I am going to take it back to black. Does this price seem reasonable considering the original interior and door panels and lack of rust. The 6 in it does not run? Thanks, David

Re: 62 Falcon 6 to V8 swap...
Hey there, welcome. I've gone through the same type of upgrade that you're looking to do. I got a lot of info from Ford Falcon Parts - FalconParts.com. I'm not advertising, but they had a great section on that popular swap and the parts needed for it.
Good Luck,
Jesus P.

Re: 62 Falcon 6 to V8 swap...
Does anybody have the details of this swap?
like what motor mounts to buy, and if the steering is an issue?
I plan on putting a Ford 8 in and drive line on it also
