straight six info needed

hey i am thinkin bout getting a 1988 300 six and before i did i wanted to know what kind of horsepower i am looking at getting out of it and what i need to do to get the horsepower. im puting it in a 61 ford falcon project. also i talked to some one and they said that it will still take modification to put a 300 in my falcon so i am also wanting a 200. if anyone could tell me what kind of horsepower a 200 six is capable of that woul be great.

It all depends on how much work you are willing to do to it.

Do not expect a stock 200 to have much go, its torquey but thats about it. If you stick with the log head (integral intake manifold) then you are probably limited to about 180hp at the flywheel naturally aspirated and probably around 400hp at the flywheel if turboed.

However the new aluminum head from classic inlines makes a huge difference and with a fairly mild naturally aspirated build you can achieve 200hp at the wheels.

However unless you fabricate everything yourself to turbo it the cost is not super cheap if you are looking to make v8 like numbers but the sixes are definetly alot of fun.

Do a lot of work to a stock 200 with extra carbs and a cam and you can get 180 HP out of it if you're realllllllly persistent...

The 300 will probably stick out the hood on a 60-63 falcon, it's a lot taller than a 200, and you'd need a transmission to fit it, diffrent corssmember, driveline, shift linkage Etc...

You can get a LOT of HP with a turbo on one... but that's not my forte...

I am curious to how your project on the Falcon worked out, I have a 62 Falcon Ranchero I am thinking of doing an engine swap on and I want to stay with a straight six and keep it as original looking as possible.
