Steering gear lube ?

I removed the fill plug from my 64 falcon steering gear to check it. What kind of lube should be put in ? It looked to have a consistency of between 80w gear lube or heavy grease. I am thinking , 80 or 90w gear lube ? What would you guys say ?

I wanted things to be as good or better than the day I bought it in 64. I have it allmost completly taken apart now. JIM

Re: Steering gear lube ?

I used Ford's premium long-life grease. NPD sells this as the recommended grease to use in the steering boxes.
