What is stock ride height

Hello everyone,

This is my first post. I have just purchased a 1963 Ford Falcon 4 door with a 144. I would like to purchase new springs and leafs. I have noticed a few sites sell springs and leaf with a 1, 2, or 3 inch drop "from stock height". My question is, does anyone know what stock height is?

I am sure mine is not stock height. Maybe someone has installed stock springs and leafs and can measure the height at the center of the wheelwell opening, or bumper height on front and back.

Thank You,
Steve

Re: What is stock ride height

That's going to be tough since they're all 50 years old so what was factory ride height probably isn't anymore. It seems that all of the old Fords sagged in the rear and many people don't like that look. So how high you want it to sit is probably more important, right?

I would find a car like yours that sits the way you like it and go from there.

Re: What is stock ride height

John,

I agree with everything you said. I was hoping a person had installed factory springs and leafs on their 63' within the last few years and could take a quick measurement.

I suppose it would matter on the wheel and tire combo as well. I have 13's, but am not sure on the tire size right now.

More so i had a ballpark range to go off of, and an idea of how much my car is sagging. I've seen way too many people order 1" lowering springs only to find the car raised 2" after installing them.

Thank You,
Steve

Are you more worried ride height all around or the rear sagging? Depending on what look you like makes a big difference. If you're trying to get a rake in it I'd do -1" up front and plus 1" in the rear just to be safe. What is it exactly you're trying to do? And how do you know it isn't at factory ride height now?

Re: What is stock ride height

I concur with John... That said if you are refuring to the black bird in your attachment, it looks like its at a stock ride height altho the angle of pic is a little tuff. All of the Falcons that i remember seeing (when left stock) seem to have the "nose-up" attitude... And the specs John suggested would give it a more 'natural' stance.. MO of course....

Re: What is stock ride height

OK, regardless I am still hoping to find someone with a 63 that has recently replaced the springs and leafs with stock ones. Yes the back sits a little low (it has heavy duty shocks on it), and the front sits a little high.

I am hoping to lower it in the front to get more of a level, slight rake (not sure a 4 door needs an aggressive look). I have included a link to 60 photos of the Falcon.

I would like to order new leafs to obtain the same ride height the 50 year old leafs are currently at. I would like to order new front springs that will drop the current height a little.

Re: What is stock ride height

I found the stock height to be 54.5" on a 1963.

If nobody knows what the stock height was, maybe someone can chime in if they have a 63 with an inline and replaced their springs or leafs with 1-3" drop, and what the height was after the install.

1963 Ford Falcon
4 door
Inline 144
13" wheels (not sure on tire size)

Thank You,
Steve

Re: What is stock ride height

Nice looking car.

For what it is worth I would just cut a half coil off of the existing front springs and see it that takes care of it for you. Ride quality will not really be affected and it is free-ish to do, minus labour if you can't do it yourself.

I think all Falcons can benefit from at least a bit of lowering....
