I talked to a guy that has a 64 falcon hardtop for sale and he said he put a suspension and rearend out of a 68 Fairlane 500 in it. Does anyone know if this is a direct replacemnt or would it take alot of modifying to get this to work? Thanks

68 fairlane rearend is not a direct bolt in. There are better ways to go. you need a narrow housing for the early falcons 52 1/4" is the stock length for the bare housing. When I installed the 9" housing on my 65 Sprint i narrowed it 3/8" on each side so I could fit 15x8 rims with 235-60-15 tires.
Re: Suspension swap question for 64 falcon hardtop
Fairlane is a larger car for sure, but, my question is, Why would he swap to a F;lane suspension anyway, the 60;s Fairlane suspension isn;t know as cutting edge, even for the day.
If he was trying to improve handling, why not look at Fatman or other companies that offer updated suspension upgrades
Re: Suspension swap question for 64 falcon hardtop
Maybe i misunderstood him but i thought he was just interested in what cars had a rear that would bolt in and not have to have one end cut . That's all i listed. I don't see any gain changing the suspension to something all most the same as the original falcon one. If he wants to change that part then it needs to be upgraded to some thing more modern.
Re: Suspension swap question for 64 falcon hardtop
Thanks for the help that's why I ask these questions after he sent me more pics it looks like something that was just thrown together, so not interested. The suspension and rear end must have been no good otherwise what would have been the advantage to swapping it out. I'll just keep looking, these 64-65 hardtops are harder to find than I thought.
