Thinking about the brakes...Dual Chamber Master cylinder

Still waiting on my carburator, So I was thinking about working on the brakes. I noticed, should have remembered, that early to mid 60's (like my 1965) Fords have the single chamber Master cylinder. I am thinking about just changing the MC for now, get the disks later? I have never bent or flared lines before. What do I have to get to do a decent job? How much???? is it going to cost me~? Is it better to do the whole job, get dirty once, I really hate to work on 3 - 4 systems at the same time. But summer is fast slipping away. I really want to have this puppy up and running, stable...before the winter sets in. Anybody installed the MPC kit....does it have the lines, proportioning valve, etc already set?

Bending brake line is easy with a tube bender. $15 tool.

Also a double-flare tool will be needed.

It's an easy weekend project to run new lines. Depending on how old the current ones are, you might as well do them all.

Use the MC from a '96 Dodge Van. Aluminum, bolts right up.

I've heard about the 96 Dodge van MC before. Will that work for a 63, ya think? And does it matter if you don't have power brakes? Will the Dodge MC still bolt right up?
Thanks.

Yes, it's the same master that Greg Cook uses on his 63 Galaxie.

He runs manual disk-drum brakes on his car.

Do any mods have to be made to the pushrod?
Also, I believe you will need a propotioning valve to balance front and rear pressures.

The 66 LTD I got today has a dual chamber master cylinder on the "Pump and Pray" brake system. It has an equalizer block/splitter. I am not sure if it is original or not.

Yeah, 1966 was the first year for dual chamber master cylinders and disc brakes were an option too, at least I think they were. Back then you could only get disc brakes with power brakes. That was one of the reasons I hadn't thought about swapin in the 66 front brakes/spindles.

I'm pretty sure that 1966 Fords still used the single bowl master?

The 7-Litre Galaxies from 1966 had standard power disk brakes from the factory.

But,I'm 99.9 % positive that they still had the single bowl master with them.

The power disk brakes were optional on any 1966 Ford.

Tom,
You are right, 65/66 Ford vehicles still used the single chamber Master cylinder, I should have check before guessing at the date. Heck, I could have asked you, since you have a '66. Trying to clean up my mess, I got to searching on the 'net for info. Haven't found the definative answer yet, but...check out http://www.chtopping.com/Home/, this guy has some info on Drum brakes and the Single chamber master cylinder, they'er nick name is the "Fruit Jar", seems to fit. Anyway, thay have done the swap on Mustangs and rod, nothing on Galaxies on the site, but good information.
