Almost lost my 62 Galaxie in a wheat field fire.

Arrived home last night after being in Detroit for 10 days while my son got married. It was late, but I could tell there had been a fire by the soot and smell of smoke. A total of 3000 burned with 700 not yet harvested. It burned to withing a 100 feet of my barn which was full of hay and my 62 Galaxie 500 XL and 55 F100. The neighbor got it stop by plowing a fire break with his disc. I own him a bunch now since my house and barn would have both burned if he hadn't of gotten it stopped. Winds were blowing at about 40 mph and the fire department could only stand there and watch because of how fas it was moving. It burned right up to the neighbors house and buildings then went over the top and kept moving. The fireman said the house didn't burn because of the speed it came through and house had asbestos siding and a tin roof. No buildings were lost and no one hurt which is the main thing.

Almost lost my 62 Galaxie in a wheat field fire.

Back in 96 I lost my 60 by 80 shop & apartment in a fire. In it was a mint 65 Lincoln, a dozen engines, and a bunch of parts including the 390/4 speed, interior, and most of the trim off my 64 Galaxie.

Almost lost my 62 Galaxie in a wheat field fire.

last year i had my galaxie stored out in a frends place a little out of town by the CP train tracks, being a abnormally dry summer and the train comes by and runs over debris os some variety causing sparks to ignite the ditch
beside.

a little after the fire starts he calls my dad and i out to get the fire out/ vehicles moved.

the shed was only about 30 meters from the tracks, thanks to the wind it gave him time to throw a chain around the front bumper and tow the thing out with his 93 f100, this is where we arive to the scene from doing about 130 km on the little 2 lane highway 15 min after we had relocated the galaxie to a safe location along with the parts car the shed burntdown in a huge fire ball for old dry wood and shingles.

it was a verry close call, the only ting damaged on the car was the steel behind the bumper of the car, its just bent up from the chain.

need less to say about after a week we had the galaxie towed home wile the cuctum is still out there wating to donate parts.
