Don't get the wrong impression, I was only trying to be a smart a**, but sometimes the context doesn't quite come over the same on a posting.

Sorry about not getting back sooner on this but here's the measurements taken.

This is the measurement from the 90 degree machined surface of the spindle directly behind the splash shield with the splash shield removed. Measurements were taken from only 3 spindles from the machined flat to the closest point of the taperd ball joint hole.

First spindle measured 3 3/4

Second spindle measured 3 11/16

Third spindle measured 3 7/8

You guys & gals need to look for spindles that have the least distance from the machined flat to spindle hole

What vehicles are these measurements from? Or is it just from your stockpile and unsure now? Or is there that big a dif from one Gal to another?

Hi Deb!,

These are spindles swiped from 74-79 Ford Intermediates. Some T-bird, LTD, Cougar. Remember as per past posting, spindles have same part numbers according to Hollander Guide and will interchange. I just think that the mfg process might have been a little sloppy or tolerences were not that criticle because of more adjustment with the mid 70's Fords.

Thanks for the reply. When it comes to manufactoring there are probably a lot of little things that don't match the books exactly.

Galaxie_406 you are the man!
you said you have a supply of them spindles that will work? how much would you want for a set? the spindles i have are way off. I've only drivin it about 100 miles and the outside of my tires are shot. I should take a picture of it, looks rediculous.

johnnysuede23,

Which model car do you have?

Did you replace any/all wear parts when you did the swap?

When you took the car for your realignment, what did the shop say?

i haven't replaced anything, just did a straight spindle swap. I have a 64 custom with a 460/c6. i haven't taken it to an alignment shop, it looks way to far out, i don't see how any adjustment would fix it. maybe i should bring it in anyways i just hate to throw money at it and i haven't found a shop in pheonix I trust.

hey thanks for the quick reply this board is a goldmine i can't believe i haven't found it and all of you before.

First call the TIRE shops and get a reference for a shop that specializes in the older cars for alignments, have them check it out and see. You could do a little adustment yourself by using a level and taking out some of the shims equally per side, at least that will get you to the shop. Be prepared to replace some parts prior to a new alignment but the shop can check it out and tell you what parts you will need to replace.

Any idea what a maximum measurement would be and still be able to align? Anyone have a spindle that wouldn't align on their car to measure. I hate to go to the trouble with mine and have to pull them back off, since I won't know for sure till it goes to the alignment shop.
