Trunk weatherstripping

When I drove through the car wash the water sprayed into the trunk. I'm thinking the previous owner replaced the weatherstripping with something too low. It is glued into the channel and folds inward and lays on the inner lip. The rubber is about a quarter inch thick and so it sits one quarter inch above the lip.

Does it need to be taller?

Re: Trunk weatherstripping

If I'm not mistaken it don't need to be taller but CLOSER to the sealing lip in the box, as in positionally on the trunk can make it tighter or looser in it's seal.

I can't picture the shape in my head just now but I'm not too far off the mark..

Re: Trunk weatherstripping

The ones I installed back when were a solid loop of foam that got crammed tight in to the L groove of the lid. It may have been installed when weather was cold. Try to leave the trunk lid open for several hours on a HOT day, and then see if it relaxes to seal up. If installed wrong, and installer pulled it tightly, it will NEVER relax. You then need to install another one.

Re: Trunk weatherstripping

Mine is on the deck instead of the lid, though putting in an extra strip in the lid might not be a bad idea. Here is a pic, the rubber in only a quarter inch thick. Did any stock stuff look like this?
