Anyone install fords 521 crate engine. I'm just in the middle of installing one in my 64 but wating on parts is a pain. Should have it running in a couple of weeks. Just wondering what to expect.

Re: ford crate 521

I had one built this year with stock c-9 heads and I love it. It broke in on the dyno at 503 horse and 585 torque. I ran out of money for the heads so I'm hoping I can get set of aluminums next year to real let it breath. But you will not believe the torque, she will smoke the tire like nothing! Make sure you get a good set of headers.

Re: ford crate 521

We put a 514 in our vert and ran into some little issues.

1. Make sure you have a huge radiator. We are already 3" wider and minus the trans cooler with a Howes Racing Radiator and she runs 190-195. Way hotter with the stock rad. 2. If you use the March Performance pulley system you will have little to no clearance for the fan if you run a mechanical. Nothing that can't be remedied but it is an issue. 3. Hood clearance. We ended up putting a cowl induction scoop on because the hood wouldn't close with a high rise or medium rise manifold.

I don't think we had any other real problems.

Re: ford crate 521

if you haven't already upgrade your fuel system. The stock 5/16th fuel line will NOT feed that critter. 3/8 MININUM and alum line, NO rubber. Personally I would run 1/2 at least (I am running 1/2 to feed my current 390, left over from running my 528 in the ranger)
