Broader transmission in Texas

Guys,
I need to know if anyone here has dealt with Broader Transmission. I have a Cruise O Matic that needs performance work done to. Let me know of your experiences. Thanks, Jim

Re: Broader transmission in Texas

I have dealt with Jay @ Broader. In my experience he has been a stand-up guy and he does really know his stuff. I've worked with him on C6 stuff not Cruisomatic stuff - but I have heard from others that he has dealt with them in the Cruisomatic world and they have been happy. His prices have been fair - not the cheapest - but certainly in line with market and worth paying considering the number of times that the guys with the cheapest part have sent me the wrong stuff... :-)

Edit - for what it is worth - he is one of the sponsors on the Ford Tranny forum ( Ford Transmission Forum This is where I found him ) and the old-timers there seem to recommend him pretty regularly...

Jay built a C6 and converter to replace the cruiso in my 66 F100 390. It was right after Katrina. I installed the tranny and drove the truck from Santa Cruz, Ca to New Orleans to help some friends move and then back again. Been driving it almost daily since. Great trans and service. I recommend him highly. He does know cruisomatics well.

Re: Broader transmission in Texas

Thanks guys,
I'm hoping he can do magic on my Cruise O Matic to hold up to about 440 ft. lbs of torque and @360 HP engine I'm building. If he says I have to go with a C6 I won't fight it. But, I would really like to keep the Cruise O Matic just because it's a no's matching car. Jim

It's a 1963 Galaxie XL. I remember asking you about wheel size once before, maybe on this list. I remember your car anyway. I ended up getting a 14X 7 Wheel from Wheel Viniques and I'm putting 235/60/14 street radials on it. Jim

Re: Broader transmission in Texas

He should probably be able to help you. He helped me with my 60 and it didn't go as well. The 1960 model doesn't have vacuum advance and it turned out to be a waste of money on my end. Lesson learned- don't modify 60 Cruise-o-matics.

Re: Broader transmission in Texas

Guys,
I talked to Jay this morning. He's going to fix me up with a C6. I told him about the responses I had gotten on this website and he thanked you guys for the support. He had me send him a list of every nut, bolt and specification of the parts I was using in front and behind the transmission. He wanted to put together what I needed. Most places I deal with haven't got the time to figure out what you need. I figure I'm getting a good deal. You know what a good deal is, that's when both parties are satisfied with the transaction regardless of monitary exchange. He made me feel I was getting a good deal.
Thanks again guys for your reponses on my inquiry. Jim

You are going to pay him a bit for that time - but I'd bet good money that at the end of the day you will be ahead of the game in terms of both time and money. I am finishing up a self-build of a C6 for my 65 - I found Jay when I was well past the start of the project and had already bought my kit, converter, etc... after chatting with him on a couple of issues and buying a couple of upgrade parts from him - I wish I had found him first.
