maddog headers

ok so i broke 4 bolts removing my old cast headers of the Gal. and all the mounting ears fell apart when i took out old header. i have a set of factory 427 headers that ive been told wont fit and after seeing the difference between my originals and the 427s i can see they wont fit. so after careful consideration im leaning towards MadDog headers. anyone have any reviews of experience with these? do they come bare? i like the blacked out look on them so i need them painted or coated in black. price isnt bad and i live close enough i can pick them up and avoid shipping.

so any thoughts?

Re: maddog headers

I have a set on my 70 with an FE. Very happy with them. I ordered bare, but they re starting to darken on their own. I believe he offers them coated as well. Be prepared for a long turn around time tho. It took just over a month to receive mine, but he may not be as far behind as he was this spring. I had no fitment issuse to deal with..no banging on new metal. They have a nice, thick flange and they re split almost all the way thru the flanges, so just a quick nick with a sawzall or grinder and they re free. The collectors slip on with a little tapping and some anti seize. They also have some tabs welded on and are bolted to the tubes. I'd recommend them!!

Re: maddog headers

I also have a pair of mad dogs, fast shipping and good customer service and the workmanship was great, I would recommend. IF your sit low to the ground u might have some clearence problems. I had to put new coil springs in with good shocks and she doesn't bottom out anymore.

Re: maddog headers

so bcuz, you ordered bare and left them that way or did you paint them? and you have to order collectors as well? are they not included in the original price?

Re: maddog headers

I left mine bare. I ll eventually wrap them. The header side collector comes with them....the other side that you weld to your exhaust system you'll have to buy seperately

Re: maddog headers

I have had them for a year now and they are good. Just a few clearence issues. Scraping on big bumps, almost touching oil filter, steering arm put a dent in #8.

Other than that, join collector to pipes with high temp copper RTV. I even use it instead of gaskets, hasn't leaked in a year.

If I can remember correctly, my final price was $395 with collectors and reducers to 3". Mine are painted now but I'm taking them out to either get powder coated or I'll just wrap them.

Re: maddog headers

I have them on my 65. Fit great, just close to my oil filter.
