I never would have thought to have seen one as a police car.
Looks very nice to me.

Thanks for finding this, DanV. I've seen this car before; in fact, I think it has been posted on FM before. It is a crazy cool car. Personally, I think all 427s should have come standard with a grab bar, to assuage your freaked out passengers. I dig the little lights sticking out over the gauge panel under the steering column. And wow, a vacuum gauge, you don't see those every month. My uncle had planned to get the transistorized ignition on our car when he ordered it in February, 1963 (I even have a little scrip of paper in his handwriting with all the options he wanted, including the T ignition), but apparently the dealer told him it wasn't available at the time (that was exceptionally early in the life of the 427 option). This four-door cop car was built in August, so I guess they figured out the transistor ignition by then. This cop four-door vies with the Tobacco King 1964 as the most far-out original Galaxie I've seen.

This time next year the car will STILL be for sale. $75K, you got to be kidding.
If they get 75K I want them to sell mine.

Cool car!
This statement "It, of course, is 100% numbers matching with all "born with" components as you would expect a completely original and untouched example to be. The only items that have ever been changed are typical consumables such as spark plugs, filters, tires, belts, hoses, the battery, and recently, the original mufflers were replaced." is BS. I see newer Holley carbs for one thing. Wounder what else has been replaced-updated that they are not telling about?

They used the 427 powered mainly in Northern Calif. back when.

And for the life of me cannot remember as to if or not on the transmission. I DO remember the local squad cars having the three speed Cruise-o-matics.

I know that it mentions side oiler in the description too, but that must be an error.

Fordman, what do you see on the carbs that indicates they are newer? When I compare them to this tech sheet they look pretty much the same. Not that I doubt you, I just don't know what you're seeing.

They look like they might be universal Holleys, as can be seen by the different throttle lever as shown on the tech sheet.
Also the linkages appear to be wrong. Don't think they look like they are progressive.

I keep a pretty close eye on R-code sales (although ours is not going anywhere!). In my humble opinion, this one is a bit high but not way out of line. A fully restored low miles black-black '63 fastback just sold for $57,000 at Mecum. With this one being unrestored, highly unusual, transistorized, etc. it should go for more than that fastback. Maybe...$65K? $67K? $75,000, maybe a bit much, but not crazy money. I think they'll have to come down about ten grand. I wish them luck. Lots of folks would look at this, see a number of doors greater than two, and write it off as a boring car.

Not that it really matters, but the caps on the wheels are found on XLs aren't they? Not 500s.

Correct, and if the air conditioning and all the doodads were not enough, those wheel covers convince me that this is one seriously vain police chief we are talking about.

4 door will never get close to a fastback in price.

Hey, you can watch a little movie of the '63 cop 427 in action. It pops up in a viewer, go to "Drive In" at the top of the Colin's Cars page. Fun.

Correct. They are newer universal Holley carbs, as noted by the carb linkage and throttle arms.

I see that this statement has been removed from the description as well as the asking price. I wonder what's going on?
