Which power steering fluid to use

I owned a 69 mustang in 8 years, sold it 2 years ago. I always used Type F P/S fluid in that car. My 63 Galaxie has similar power steering, Bendix. I should use Type F fluid, but its almost impossible to buy now.

I found another oil in a local shop: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Comma-ATF1L-.../dp/B003BPNNXC

Info about the product:

Meets Ford ESP-M2C-33F/G requirements
Also suitable for power steering pumps requiring Ford type fluid

On the back side, it stands that it can be used in Automatic transmission where mercon oil is required

Type F oil sold bye quaker state meets Ford ESW-M2C33F specifications.
Compared with "ESP-M2C-33F/G", its just the W/P and the G that is the difference

Someone know if Automatic transmission like AQF can be used in P/S-steering in a 63 Galaxie?

Well, I tried. The oil foamed. Someone knows how to flush the system for the oil? Only type F works in a bendix Ford PS steering

Re: Which power steering fluid to use

Some special sounds came from the system, when I moved the tires side to side. I guess the cause is the foaming. Or shouldnt that foaming oil cause special sounds from the system?

Re: Which power steering fluid to use

I talked with a friend who works at a mechanic car shop. He said that whining and foaming is normal, when its small amounts of oil in the system. Just filling on more oil is the solution, and move the tires more

Re: Which power steering fluid to use

if the system isn't full you will have that prob. turn the wheels lock to lock 3 times- wait a few minutes and repeat. the bubbles come out when the fluid is in the resivoir

Re: Which power steering fluid to use

Odd never had mine foam that bad and it runs low to where it's groaning sometimes cause it sat a while and it all leaked out. But i've never used another fluid but type F in it. Probably with foam it is like it's low just like a bucket up soapy water that's full and only had an inch or two of water. Like said above i guess just fill it up and turn it to try and get air out of the system. Too bad they didn't have Wal-mart stores there, you could get a gallon of Type F. But then again still might not have it over there when i stop to think about it.

Re: Which power steering fluid to use

I was chatting with the person who imported the Galaxie for me, he told me that the ATF I used, which is linked in the beginning of this thread, is a type F oil. So it should work ok when I get the air out of the system

Re: Which power steering fluid to use

It will foam until the system is entirely purged of air. Some systems (and depending on hose routing) prefer to be purged engine off. Jack the front end up, and top-off fluid. Turn lock-to-lock several times and check fluid level. Repeat until stable at full. Start engine and repeat until stable at full.

Re: Which power steering fluid to use

Just what you said here, about jacking uo the car in front, PSIG, is just what some of my friends told me also.

But today, I tried again, with the engine on, without jacking, to turn the wheels lock-to-lock several times. It was really easy to do, without jacking up the car in front, so I skipped to jack up the car. The system is not whining or foaming now and works well
