Six barrel carb

While in High School, twin sons of our local muffler man Gen Lockhart, recieved for their birthdays, matching Galaxie 500 XL's with the 406 and a single body 6 barrel carb. I can't seem to find any info on the carb, just some mentions in articles about the car. Anyone got a lead?

Re: Six barrel carb

Are you sure it was a single body? Ford called the tri-power on the Hi-Po 390s and 406s a 6 barrel set up.

What you are thinking of was the 406 6v, which had a tri-power on it, or three 2bbl carbs. Ford never made a 6 barrel carburetor.

Re: Six barrel carb

Memory can do strange things over a half century.

Ford NEVER used the "tripower" expression. That was Pontiac.
It seems to have snuck in amongst the Ford crowd.

Odd, because you never hear the Mopar guys using the phrase "tripower" to descibe their 340's and 440's

Re: Six barrel carb

I have seen a inline 6 barrel carb on a Ford DOCH motor in the Ford museum several years ago. So I know there was at least one made by somebody?
No it was not a 3-2 set up!

Scott...

I've got two generations of 3X2 setups but have never heard of a six barrel. I hope someone finds something on this, I'd like to see it.

Yep--I've seen pics of those monster Motorcraft inline carbs. Racing stuff for the GT40 maybe? I thought they were inline 4, but I can't remember exactly.

Thumbs up Re: Six barrel carb

OK--inline four carbs by Autolite.

They go with the Cross Boss intake. For Trans Am Boss Mustangs around 1970, to get around the rules that prohibited webers. Lot's of cfm apparently. Not sure if anyone ever made an FE intake for them.

Wasn't they also known as 6packs?
