Hey guys, I have a loose steering wheel. I don't even know where to start.

Yes, I would start with the usual suspects such as Greg Donahue, Concours Parts, Dennis Carpenter etc. I got one many years ago from Greg Donahue that was NOS, still on there.

You may look at that front suspension a bit closer when I removed my original one it was still in good shape. There may be forces causing wear on that joint.

1967 Gal, wheel end...Re: loose steering wheel

Good morning!
I am adding to this thread as "loose steering wheel" does apply to my situation.
My steering wheel moves up/down and left/right by about 1/4 inch plus.
I have an extra steering column assembly...same thing.
Just checked a buddy's 67, similar but much less play.

All that holds the bearing in place is the back side of the turn signal assembly. This seems insane as the turn signal assembly is nylon (white plastic) and seems entirely inappropriate for holding the whole column into place.

Am I missing some kind of bearing cap, retainer, ???etc???

Had the same issue with mine and it sounds like it is the upper bearing. The bearing sits in a rubber insulator and is pressed onto the shaft. Also, there is a snap ring that holds it in place which has to be removed. The turn signal assembly does not hold it in place.

No tilt...very basic model.
Yes, I believe that the spacer and snap ring you mention are missing.
Any clues on how I can find such a simple yet specific part?
Marty
The bearing is part # F23Z-3517-B and the insulator/sleeve is number E2AZ-3518-C. Dennis Carpenter has them and Dearborn Classics may as well. The snap ring might be a hardware store item, I didn't look into that because mine wasn't missing.

I know Amazon has the bearing, too but I don't know about the sleeve. Might be better off getting everything from one vendor. Of course, double check the numbers I gave you if you decide to order.
