Possible vapor lock?

Has to crank for a few before she starts up. Once she's warmed up, I take her for a spin. Get off the highway after driving for about 20 minutes and wait for my chance to turn away from the off ramp when she sputters and quits like she ran out of gas. Looking at the guage I'm still at 1/2 tank so I turn her over and she starts right up. Couple seconds later and she dies again. Any ideas? Vacuum is good and fuel pump is brand new.

Ford maniac has it right. Take one item at a time to solve the issue. I put money on float level. If you try to solve them all at once you won't know what is causing the issue and won't solve it. Methodical approach, one at a time is the answer. Start with the easiest one, float adjustment.

jets get adjusted for altitude, but i think that's the only thing.

what's your curb idle rpm, when the engine is warm? i'm wondering if its behaving 'properly' while the engine is cold with the choke on...and once it warms up, your idle rpm setting is too low and it stalls.
just an idea, i'm not a carb guru.

Too rich means too much fuel...which causes a bog and it to shut off...i.e. not enough air to complement the healthy portion of fuel going in. Research how to tune a carb using a vacuum guage. Mine had a bog cause I tuned her by ear to get her going...but a vacuum guage revealed she was too rich...and when she was cold she would shut off and pop.

Also send back that edelbrock...holley 100 times easier to tune and manage...cheaper too. Parts easy to get. (Uh oh I may have started a edelbrock vs holley war) edelbrocks are great when ya get em right after throwing tools across the shop but the road towards that isn't always a fun one.

I just changed the jets and rods in my edelbrock and it was too easy. I bought the rod and jet kit from Edelbrock ($65 I think). To riches my mixture 390 in my truck. They were very helpful, if you have questions and I would call them, asking your questions about altitude. My carb runs so good now. I'm still too easy, give it a try.

Did you figure this one out? If you remove the gas cap is there a significant amount of pressure? I have had that problem before. As far as I can tell there is not vent on these tanks so you need to get a cap with a 2 way vent, or if your in a pinch drill a small hole in the cap.
