Hopefully there is a short and simple solution to this...
Bought a new thermostat for the 65 galaxie 390. Installed it last fall with some other stuff. Just now got around to trying to start the engine.
MASSIVE coolant leak at the thermostat housing. Took it apart and realized that the thermostat doesn't fit nice and snug in the manifold, and the edge of it is dropping down where the housing and manifold are supposed to make contact with the gasket to seal it. There is no practical way that I can see to keep the thermostat in the precise position it needs to be in while tightening the bolts on the housing.
I went to check how the old thermostat fit, but looks like I threw it away. So... I'm guessing there's a couple different thermostat sizes or styles for the 390?? I know there's two different housing sizes depending on what manifold you have... I believe I have the one with the larger opening. How can I be sure I get the right thermostat?
Thanks!
