Hi guys I have a 67 galaxie which is the 3sp manual. The return spring in the clutch linkage is broken. Not sure how I can get around fixing it any ideas? Im going to keep the 3sp manual box which was in the car behind a 6cylinder. Going to a 289 and from what Ive read that box should be good to bolt up behind the 289 as its the same as the 4sp toploader just one less gear. Its the 14 bolt cover box not the earlier one. Also will the front suspension springs be ok for the extra weight of the 289?
I'm no expert but I bet theres only a 50-75 lbs differance between the two. I have stock 300 springs in my 79 pickup with a 351, also ran my falcon that way awhile.
Yeah I guess worst case scenario the front end will be a little lower. I have an alloy intake on the 289 an might swap on some alloy heads which lighten it considerably.
Still not sure what to do about the broken clutch spring. I really dont want to go to the trouble of converting to a hydraulic clutch but it may be the only option.
Don't recall seeing a clutch return spring like that. Then again after the mid 60's there were fewer standard shift vehicles sold. Exactly where is it located? Any chance of getting one off a similar car. How about matching something up at a hardware store.
I ve had a look around an some of the later model F trucks had a similar spring as did the earlier galaxies. The spring is in the clutch linkage which is on the firewall in the engine bay.
Searching around eBay I found a spring similar to yours. This ones for a Fairlane/Torino/ Falcon I believe. Bad thing is the guy wants 100$ for it plus the shipping to Oz. If your interested the item number is 371792080780
The link 70xl posted shows the same part that the guy on eBay is selling except a waaaay better price.
